About us

How a chance encounter started it all Our journey began several years ago during our studies when a blind woman walked into the store where one of our founders worked. We got talking and discovered that the traditional tips on white canes wear down very quickly on cobblestones. Our very first mission was therefore logical. We wanted to make an extremely robust tip so that people would have to replace them much less often.

From sturdiness to comfort During the design process and extensive street testing, we made an important discovery. A sturdy material is of course crucial, and we firmly anchored that basis in our design. But we heard repeatedly from test subjects how tiring the hard blows to the shoulder and wrist are when a cane suddenly stops behind an obstacle. From that moment on, pain-free navigation became our absolute priority. The result is a unique rolling system that moves smoothly with you in all directions and significantly reduces strain on the arm.

Testing together throughout the Netherlands To realize this vision, we conducted tests with dozens of blind and visually impaired people throughout the country. We gained a tremendous amount of energy from all the conversations we had with users we met at the trade fair in Utrecht and at various healthcare complexes. In addition, we extensively tested the Rollarbal in practice at Bartimeus and Koninklijke Visio. All this valuable feedback has made our product what it is today.

Continuing to develop for the future Our student days are now behind us, and Rollar is led by two of its original founders. Thanks to the support of an investor, we now have the stability to continue growing. We are working every day to improve the Rollarball, and we are also working behind the scenes on completely new practical aids. Your opinion is indispensable to us in this process. We always greatly appreciate honest feedback. Our vision remains down-to-earth and clear. The less you have to worry about the physical strain of your cane, the easier it is for you to step out the door independently.
